Badge Programs: Supplemental educational program for riders wishing to advance to next levels and for volunteers.
Birthday Parties: A fun way to celebrate your child's birthday with pony rides, grooming, cart rides, and hay rides. Pizza and juice are included.
Equishare: The sensible alternative to horse-ownership. Equishare offers rider the chance to bond with a horse and three 3-hour weekly slots and lessons to ride. Discounts for Winter Equishare!
Group and Troop Riding: Troop riding offers a more economical way to ride with fellow riders on the same level. Troops are offered in the Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer.
Petite Equestrian Programs: Seaton Hackney offers group lessons (riding, grooming, and safety) for 4-6 year olds.
Private Riding Lessons: Private lessons are the perfect introduction (or re-introduction) to riding. Weekly lessons are offered in 30-minutes or 60-minute intervals.
Rusty Riders Lessons: Weeky trail ride lessons on Thursday and/or Friday from 9:30am to 11:30am.

2008: "Rusty" Riders

When getting ready to ride (or kick a ride up a notch), our riders shout out "WHOOPA", a special phrase coined by Seaton Hackney's own Joy DeVito. It has come to symbolize a good time with good friends and good horses.

Held on Thursdays and Fridays (9:30 to 11:30 am), each session starts promptly at 10am so arrive early to groom, pamper, bribe and tack-up your favorite horse. The lesson will start with a mini lesson / refresher session in one of our riding rings and will be immediately followed by a one hour trail ride in Loantaka Park.

Space is limited to eight lucky Desperate Horsewives or Rusty Riders. Reserve your participation today! (973)644-3355. Fee is $50 per session.

2008: X-Country Clinics

Our Eventing Team first session has been set up to begin on October 14th for Junior riders and October 19th for Senior Riders. We will take only 6 riders in each with priority given to these that participated in our Introductory Clinic last week. Open to Levels 3C and up.

Riders MUST HAVE a X-Country vest, 4 bandages and bell boots size related to the horse you plan to ride.

Please leave your name and that of the horse you would like to ride in the office. The subsequent dates for Training will be decided upon at this first meeting. Fees will be the same as for group lessons.

2008: Badge Program

Seaton Hackney Stable's Badge Program will resume on Monday October 13th and go on well into the Winter with two Badges offered on Mondays at 4:00pm and two on Sundays at 4:30pm.

Our extensive badge program helps facilitate the integration of the riders into their new groups, enhance safety through better knowledge, and supplements instruction with a standardized educational program. Fee for each badge session is $39. All sessions last approximately 90 minutes and are completed by the successful passing of a test. Whoever does not get a passing grade (75%) will be able to retake the badge at no cost.

Volunteers ,- C.A.Ts and R.A.Ts, as customary, get these 4 badges for free and must take them as soon as they become available: Basic Safety 101, Grooming 101, Tacking Up 101 and Pony Handling 101.

All riders at Seaton Hackney 17yo and under must pass these badges before upgrading Levels. Level 1 riders will have to have taken all 101 badges prior to moving up to Level 2. Before joining Level 3, all Level 2 riders will need all the 101 and 201 badges. And so on, and so forth. If you are not a Troop Rider, you will still need to pass the Badges and your Instructor will evaluate you and recommend the proper ones.

2008: Equishare

The sensible alternative to owning a horse.

Equishare allows the more dedicated and avid rider with a modified discounted lease program to acquire their “own” horse for weekly riding and grooming. The $295/month fee includes three 3-hour weekly time slots and gives the equishare rider a 50% discount on one-hour private lessons.

Board, equipment, and veterinary care are included in the monthly fee.

While private boarding is also available, due to the overwhelming demand, Seaton Hackney Stables is not currently accepting new private boarders. However, we encourage interested parties who own horses to contact the stables to be wait listed. If you do not own a horse, arrange a visit to meet our "equisharable" equines.

2008: Trail Rides

Explore the miles of bridle paths in adjacent Loanataka Park. Guided trail rides are offered during the week as well as weekends. 1 hour, 1.5 hour and 2 hour trail rides are available.

History of Seaton Hackney Stables

The Seaton Hackney complex once housed the famous Hackney Racing Stables, popular in Morris County, New Jersey during the turn of the 20th century. Today, it is a county riding facility that offers programs for all ages and skills.

Seaton Hackney Stables is situated on a 30-acre fenced property boasting both indoor and outdoor barns with 50 stalls of various sizes, all ventilated with individual fire alarms, fluorescent lighting and outside electrical outlets. Other amenities include a large shower stall, a party/general assembly room, two large fenced riding rings, a driving and galloping mile long track complete with Announcer's Tower and Meeting/Scoring Room for Shows, Parties and Special Events, as well as plenty of turn-out paddocks.

CROSS COUNTRY TRAINING AT

September 22, 2008 – MORRISTOWN: Seaton Hackney Stables announced yesterday that they will be offering cross-country training at their Morristown facility to qualified riders.

Cross-country riding is a new offering for the County facility and allows participants to ride horses over open fields and jump obstacles such as water jumps, ditches, coops, and logs to demonstrate horsemanship. Cross-country riding focuses on speed, endurance and jumping ability of the cross-country horse while demonstrating the rider's knowledge of pace and proper positioning as well as safely controlling the horse across open fields and through wooded areas.

Due to the demanding nature of cross-country riding, interested riders must participate in clinics which include instruction on safety, riding position, footing, terrain and proper approach to cross-country fences. Interested riders should call the office at 973.644.3355 to reserve their spot in one of their upcoming training clinics in October.

SEATON HACKNEY STABLES OFFERS PONY PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN

February 28, 2008 – MORRISTOWN: Seaton Hackney Stables is taking registration for their pony program for children aged 3-7 that begins in Spring. Participants in the Petite Equestrian Program (PEP) will acquire basic horsemanship skills in small groups. They will begin their "equestrian ventures" with size-related ponies and horses. During their hour long session, children will learn basic safety, grooming techniques, learn how to steer and control the horse while receiving rides on the lead line and practicing posture and balance.

The six-week PEP program begins on March 24th with weekly class sessions offered on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. A special program will be offered for preschool aged children from 2:30 to 3:30. A second program will be offered from 4:00 to 5:00, opened to all ages (3 to 6). A weekend session will run on Saturdays from 4:00 to 5:00. Tuition is $195 per child.

Interested participants should register at Seaton Hackney Stables (440 South Street in Morristown) or call 973-644-3355. Space is limited to the first 10 registrants per session.

Seaton Hackney Stables provides a broad equestrian program aimed at engaging participants on different levels. Our staff and volunteers work hard to make every experience for our clients and guest to be memorable, educational and fun.

We offer numerous activities including troop programs during every season, private and group lessons, summer camps, PEP Birthday programs, and casual lessons on our scenic trails to riding lessons, equisharing, badge programs, and even harness driving lessons.

We offer these educational programs in a family-friendly environment, focusing on all skill-levels for all ages. Seaton Hackney Stables offers an expansive list of activities for all ages.

Riding lessons are offered with instruction in Hunt Seat Equitation, Balance seat, Combined Training, Show Jumping & Dressage. Western discipline lessons will be added in the future. Cart driving lessons and side-saddle clinics will round out the 2008 Lesson Program.

July 6, 2007: Snowbird Schooling Show

Seaton Hackney Stables is proud to announce that riders, Olivia Mathas (14) of Madison and Catherine Zimmerman (5) of Morristown won first place in two separate riding classes at Snowbird Acres Riding Show on Saturday, July 6 2007. Ms. Mathas won her blue ribbon in an Equitation Class and Ms. Zimmerman for Leadline Trotting Class. In addition, Ms. Zimmerman won a Reserve Champion ribbon in the Leadline Division.

Both riders have been taking lessons at Seaton Hackney Stables since it re-opened in September 2006 under the guidance and training of Erin Cosgrove. Both riders rode Lady Capulet, a chestnut pony owned by Ms. Mathas, in the competition.

June 24, 2007: Summer Equine Schooling Show

MORRISTOWN, NJ - June 24, 2007 - On June 10th, Seaton Hackney Stables in Morristown, NJ hosted their first Equine Schooling Show since reopening in September 2006. Riders from age 4 and up participated a variety of activities such as the Petite Equestrian Program Riders for 4-6 year olds to Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Riders.

A special Jumping Class Competition had Chris Hooper and Max Feldman of Morris Township testing their agility and equine skills in manuevering their horses over jumps that were increased after each successful round. The Schooling Show also had special equine games during the lunch hour including Musical Chairs and Ride a Buck for the volunteers and riders.

2007 Summer Camp Program

Wondering what your child can do over the summer? Looking for something different that combines the great outdoors with education and fun? Send your child to Seaton Hackney Stables for one of our week-long summer camp programs!

Campers learn basic safety, equine grooming, and barn management skills. Full-day campers receive daily lessons and daily trail rides. In addition, both full-day and half-day participants receive a daily badge lesson in one of our many different programs including cart driving, equine breeds, equine health, and other exciting topics of study important for anyone interested in riding a horse.

Our camp counsellors hail from around the world and bring a fun and exciting international flare to the program, introducing dancing (including square dancing) as well as arts, crafts, and other cultural activities.

With space limited to 20 participants and several weeks already filled, reserve your place now. Weekly camps run all summer until Labor Day.

Weekly Camp Rates: Half-day ($295) and full-day ($425) for riders of every ability (aged 9 to 17). Full-day participants will have time for swimming at Ginty Pool and will receive lunch--which is included in the full-day tuition fee.

Seaton Hackney is offering a winter camp Tuesday through Saturday, December 26 to December 30th. Half-day and full-day sessions are being offered.

Half Day Session: Includes one lesson, one trail ride, badges (lectures on different horse related topics), grooming, tacking, and arts/crafts.

Full Day Session: Includes two lessons, one trail ride, badges (lectures on different horse related topics, grooming, tacking, and arts/crafts.

The session will end with a show on Saturday for parents and friends to attend.

General Riding: When riding at Seaton Hackney Stables, the following items are required for our clients, regardless of age:

Bicycle or riding helmet.
Low-heeled boots.
Long pants.

Show Apparel: For riders participating on the Seaton Hackney Show Team, please visit one of these stores and request the apparel appropriate for your riding class. You should also consult with your riding instructor for guidance on what apparel is required. For Schooling Shows held at Seaton Hackney Stables, formal apparel is optional unless otherwise indicated.

The Seaton Hackney Stables Summer Camp program offers a wonderful week of horse activities including educational programs about horses (anatomy, grooming, health, etc.), arts/crafts, riding lessons, and trail rides. Lunch is provided. Afternoon campers have the option to swim next door at Ginty Pool. The following photos show some of the campers during the July program, including our wonderful counsellors from Israel, Brazil, France, and England!

The following photos show three of Seaton Hackney Stables' stars at Snowbird (Long Valley, NJ) at the July 2007 Equation Show as well as the support team who travels along to cheer the riders and tend to the horses.

SEATON HACKNEY OFFERS TWO DAY TROOP PROGRAM

January 20, 2007 – MORRISTOWN: The recently re-opened Seaton Hackney has announced that they will offer a special two-day special troop program during the President’s Day break in February. The two-day troop program will provide riders training to improve horsemanship and horseback riding skills.

The special troop program is being offered on February 19th and 20th , coinciding with school closures in Madison and Morris School District, for riders 8-17 years old, regardless of experience level. The program includes three daily riding sessions: one private or lungeing lesson, one group lesson, and one trail ride.

November 20, 2006: MORRISTOWN, NJ – The recently re-opened Seaton Hackney has announced that they will offer a Winter Camp during the holiday school recess to provide riders training to improve horsemanship and horseback riding skills.

The Winter Camp is open to riders 8-17 years old, regardless of experience level. The program includes three daily riding sessions: one private or lungeing lesson, one group lesson, and one trail ride).

Seaton Hackney Stables offers both private and semi-private lessons for the rider(s) who want more flexibility in scheduling or individual attention as well as troop lessons based on skill level.

Private lessons are a great way for students to have one-on-one instruction, developing strong bonds with the instructor and their horse. Instructors work closely with their students, adjusting the course of study based on each unique rider's needs. Gift certificates and riding cards are available.

For group lessons in a troop, students study together, learning skills as a group. Troop lessons fill up quickly so call now for the Spring 2007 schedule or sign up for our email alerts.

Petite Equestrian Program for Spring 2008

Children (age 3 to 6) will acquire basic horsemanship skills in small groups. They will begin their "equestrian ventures" with size-related ponies and horses. During their hour long session, children will learn basic safety, grooming techniques, learn how to steer and control the horse while receiving rides on the lead line and practicing posture and balance.

It's the perfect introduction to riding for smaller children and a great segway to private lessons.

Each child will have 2 to 3 rides during each session. One session will involve pony cart rides around the arena.

Spring II Dates:	May 15 to June 21st
Days:	Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Tuition:	$195 per participant for six weekly sessions
Times:	4:15 to 5:15 (Thur/Fri) 2:15 to 3:15 (Sat only)

Sign up in person at the stables. Sessions limited to twelve children. Spaces fill up quickly so reserve your spot early.

Please note that insurance regulations require that parents sign a liability waiver as there is an inherent risk when working with horses. Children will be lectured on safety at the beginning of each session. Late arrivals who miss the safety lecture may forfeit riding time.

Jack the Donkey: He's a real country boy at heart. Besidesing loving loves lots of carrots, hewill hee-haw loudly if his beloved Maggie is out of his line of vision. He's a good sport for our PEP program and gentle with all of the children. He especially likes getting dressed up, as you can see from this photo.

Baby Hackney: A new addition to the barn, this pint-sized little gal is a PEP favorite. She came from Camelot and amuses everyone with her beautiful gait and big eyes. She's also perfect for our more advanced "smaller" riders, especially those who are exploring jumping.

Precious: A private boarder, Precious is everyone's favorite. She is a American Miniature Horse, not a pony. No bigger than a large dog, American Miniature Horses are "miniature" versions of well-balanced horses, possessing confirmation characteristics found in most equine breeds. Miniature Horses can be found in a rainbow of colors and types. They are eager to please and make a gentle and affectionate companion for individuals of any age or ability. Our stable mascot, Precious, doesn't disappoint as she has a great disposition. We love having Precious, who is the favorite of all children and even the adults.

Snoopy: Snoopy is an all-white Appalossa with a couple of traditional Appalossa spots on his legs. He has darling personality but fights with his stall-mate. Snoopy has a funny habit of appearing to stare into the sky (i.e. star gazing). He likes to snuggle with people, hugging them with his head and licking their hands. Give him a bath and watch him drink water from a hose, much to the delight of spectators. A favorite on the trails as well as in the ring, this 4-year old horse is amazingly gentle and versatile under saddle.

Delia: A beautiful painted horse, Delia is a favorite with our dressage riders. She is light and graceful with her gait.

Levi: Lauren B's "favorite" horse at the barn due to his lovely manners with nipping the tooshies of his stall mate.

Corona: Lisa favorite horse (and equishare).

Grady: A beautiful black horse who shares the stall with Corona.

Sir George Maxwell: A new addition in 2008. Sir George Maxwell (named after our "RAT" 2007 Volunteer of the Year) is a large chestnut with a fiesty personality.

Lord Larkin: One of our largest horses, Lord Larkin is certainly the winner of the Seaton Hackney Stable's Most Regal and Handsome category! He has a lovely, large face with deep, rich eyes and a mischievous personality. He's an alert horse with a fantastic gait. Everyone knows Lord Larkin, especially the children who love him because he is one of the only horses who can lower his head over the stall door to their eye-level. Sometimes you'll catch him "napping" over the stall door, his lower lip dangling a bit. But don't be fooled. He's always alert and looking for fun. Don't ignore him or you'll hear the common banging of him kicking at his stall door, Larkin's way of requesting your attention or treats.

Mickey: A Haflinger, Mickey has an interesting and playful disposition. He's both curious and naughty in a mischievous sort of way. He loves to play games. For example, if you leave his halter or a lead rope hanging outside of his stall, you might catch him tossing it onto the ground if you are fast enough. He seems to know when people are watching him and tries to do his little tricks behind your back.

Maggie: Another little pony, Maggie is black and quite fuzzy as well as fat. She's Marc's cart pony but also a frequent member of the Petite Equestrian Program which makes her a favorite among the children who love grooming her long, black mane and hugging her fuzzy neck. When she's taken out of the pony paddock, listen to Jack the Donkey call out for her. They miss each other when separated.

Elvis: A fun little pony with a long blond main and fuzzy, fat belly. He likes to be groomed by the children in the Petite Equestrian Program but also to wander in the field during turnout with his fellow pony pals. The stable mascot, Miss Catherine, recently "bought" him for five dollars and a nickle so, if you see a little girl hanging around the paddock with her cowboy boots on the wrong feet, you can be assured it's Elvis' new "owner". ;)
